Caribbean Yacht Charters – Update Season 2017/2018

The Caribbean prepares for the charter high season. Even though the hurricanes Irma and Maria have left their mark especially in the Virgin Islands, St. Barth’s and St. Martin, the charter guests will once again find a fantastic cruising area with beautiful bays and white beaches, lush nature and relaxed beach bars, friendly people, reggae, steelbands and Caribbean feeling. Please find here an update for Caribbean Luxury Yacht Charters in the new 2017 / 2018 season.

Caribbean Islands and Charter Yachts are ready for the season

Numerous luxury charter yachts – mega yachts, motor yachts, sailing yachts and crewed catamarans – are currently on their way from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean to arrive on time for the start of the high season. Of the yachts cruising throughout the year in the Caribbean, a significant number have been destroyed by Irma. But many are already “ready for the season” and are now waiting for their guests.

Here is an update on the current situation: Antigua and all islands south of Antigua  with the exception of Dominica – Guadeloupe, the Windward Islands, the Grenadines and Grenada were spared by the hurricanes, as the south of Cuba. A carefree charter season was never endangered here. The sparsely populated island of Barbuda, which belongs to Antigua and was significantly affected, is under reconstruction. Dominica will need a lot of time for full recovery as well.

“BVI is open for business” – the British Virgin Islands, one of the most popular charter destinations, have already reported back in early November. The airport is open, the roads cleared, the beaches clean again, the Internet largely working, the ferry service to the US Virgin Islands too. The islands are already green again – the Caribbean climate ensures that nature recovers quickly. The underwater world has survived – snorkeling and diving are great as always. Many beach bars and restaurants have resumed operation. Even the luxury charter yachts and some of the catamarans with crew are partially already operating again. It will take time for all the damaged or destroyed buildings to be renovated or rebuilt, some luxury resorts and hotels are completely destroyed.

Caribbean Feeling like 20 Years ago

On some beaches you will find the atmosphere of the original Caribbean, as it was twenty or thirty years ago: simple beach bars made of wood instead of luxury lounges … which will certainly not harm the holiday feeling .

The situation is similar on St. Martin / Sint Maarten and St. Barths. Airports are open, many bars & restaurants already waiting for guests …. life goes on. The hotel tourism on all affected islands will be limited in the coming season. All the more the people on the islands are looking forward to the yacht charter tourists and hope for a good season, also as a basis for the reconstruction.

By the way: the annual Charter Yacht Shows on the Virgin Islands in Tortola and St. Thomas in November did not have to be canceled, as well as all other planned Caribbean Yachting events – from the BVI Spring Regatta to the St. Barths Bucket – will take place.

Do you fancy a holiday on board “your” charter yacht in the Caribbean? The yachts and their crews are waiting for you, even for the  holidays there are still good deals available. Here you can find more information about yacht charters in the Caribbean – or just ask. We are happy to advise you on the current situation, yachts and offers.
